KLEPINGER COMMUNITY SCHOOL CELL PHONE POLICY

Approved: October 15, 2025

Resolution No.: 25-82

The Board of Directors (“the Board”) has adopted the following policy prohibiting student use of cellular telephones during the instructional day, except as set forth below or as may be permitted under the building’s comprehensive emergency management plan:

  • If determined appropriate by the Board, or if included in a student’s Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Plan, a student may use a cellular telephone or other electronic communications device for student learning or to monitor or address a health concern;
  • If the School administrator, or their designee, receives a written statement from a student’s physician requiring such use, the School shall permit a student to use a cellular telephone or other electronic communications device to monitor or address a health concern.

Students are required to follow cellular telephone and electronic communications device rules, regulations and procedures that may be established by the School administrator, or their designee, at all times.

Any violation of this Policy will result in disciplinary action, up to and including suspension and/or expulsion, and may result in the School confiscating the cellular telephone. If a cellular telephone is confiscated by the School, it will be released/returned to the student at the end of the day. Repeated violations may result in the parent/guardian being required to attend a conference with the School administrator, or their designee, prior to the cellular telephone being released/returned.

Students must comply with the requirements of this Policy and the School assumes no responsibility for the damage, theft, or loss, of any student’s cellular telephone, or the data contained therein. Students assume all risk related to bringing a cellular telephone onto School property.
